Geoff Ballet's Charity Ride on Sukida 'Commander'
Geoff Ballet is on his way to start a charity ride to Sahara desert in Morocco. His ship of desert is the new Sukida 'Commander' SK125T-18. He is riding his 125cc motor scooter to travel 7000 km. to Sahara desert and back. He will be raising money for Cancer Research and Msaada.
Mr. Ballet is a Dorset printer and has a passion for motorbikes. He'll start his long and dusty journey from Shaftesbury to M'Hamid in Morocco, the most southerly point in Western Sahara.
Mr. Ballet said, "I have been riding and restoring motorbikes for ov
er 25yrs. Two years ago my wife and I were on holiday in Morocco and hired a motoribike to travel 800km round trip from Marrakech to Zagora via Atlas mountains. This got me thinking, why not make my passion for bikes turn it into a challenge that would help others?" He added, "I have always supported Cancer Research UK, after losing my father-in-law to cancer in 2002 made me do more for this worthy charity". About Msaada he said, "I feel some time that more should be done for the brave victims of 1994 Rwandan genocide." Msaada works for widows and children to help them build new lives. It helps to train them in carpentry, masonry, dressmaking and funds school places etc.
He enlisted the support of his employers, Blackmore Press Ltd., and received major support from theinternetbikeshop, rampdale, Sukida Motorcycles and British motorcyclists' federations.
He will set off on 8th September and hopes to be back for the town's carnival at the end of first week in October. He plans to pass through as many towns and cities as possible to continue raising awareness and money for two charities. He hopes to raise between £15,000 and £25,000 which will be divided equally between the charities. He stressed and said that all the money raised will go directly to charities and nothing will be taken out for costs. He welcomes any support from people willing to sponsor him.
As a former North Dorset rugby football club player he said, "I would appeal to players who have their own companies to help sponsor the bike." He can be contacted on 01747 838613 or mob: 07919 283033 or e-mail: tangeo27@btinternet.com
